Your Skincare Routine Made Simple

One of the most common questions I see is when should you apply certain products. Should you apply the serum before or after the eye cream? Should you apply the moisturisers before or after sunscreen?

Reading your comments, emails and more, I get a great insight into what your concerns are, and what you’re confused by.

It's clear that there is a huge range of knowledge and experience with skincare. Some are just beginning their skincare journey at 60, while some have been right on track for 30 years or more.

Let's see if I can help:

MORNING ROUTINE

Cleanse
Remove your makeup and cleanse your face. Remove all the impurities and toxins and create a fresh clean surface for all the lovely products you’re about to put on your skin. We recommend trying out our Crystal Cleanser, which is free from parabens, sulfates and is cruelty-free.

Tone
Tap in toner after cleansing to prep your skin what’s coming next. There are a variety of different toners that guarantee different or targeted benefits. Some are designed so that they aid in preventing breakouts, others can add an additional boost of hydration to your face. You can see our Diamond Toner here.

Serum
We’ve recently talked about the importance of serums in your routine, so I’ll link that blog right here. I like to think of them as the heavy lifters in the skincare routine. Packed with a high concentration of ingredients that do wonders for your skin, serum is something you should incorporate as soon as possible. The benefits will make you so happy. Our Pre-Eminent Beauty Serum has over 1,223 great reviews at the time of writing.

Eye Gel
The consistency of an eye product is light. And the rule in skincare is, start with light and end with heavy. Because eye products are usually lighter than oils and a moisturiser, it’s crucial to apply this first and then move on with the rest.

Targeted Treatment(s)
If you’re spot treating acne, blemishes or even rosacea, make sure that this is done before applying a moisturiser so the treatment can penetrate through your skin and work its magic. For these kinds of challenges, this is a great spot to add in our Organic Hydration Gel (and then keep it handy all day for an instant moisture boost when needed!).

Moisturise
Not only does it hydrate your skin, but it also serves as a seal to keep in all the products you’ve applied prior. We recommend you try out our Imperial Moisturiser.

Sun Screen
Last should be sunscreen. The reason for this is, obviously ultimate protection. Another reason is that sunscreen isn’t designed to penetrate your skin, like other ingredients are.

NIGHT ROUTINE

Your night and morning routine only differ in the two last steps.

Night Cream Rather than Moisturiser
A heavier, even more nourishing moisturiser such as our Night Elixir

Sunscreen
Unless you're lucky enough to be taking your 'night-time' sleep on a lounger under the sun then you probably won't need sunscreen in the dark!

Let’s not forget one crucial thing - your personal skincare regimen is YOUR PERSONAL skincare regimen. It can be as extensive or simplified as you want it to be. It can be designed and tailored to cater to your personal needs and desires. Whether you take out or maybe even add some steps, are completely up to!

If you’re a beginner, yes, skincare can be hard. I understand it. But it’s one of those things in life where if you commit, you’ll reap such satisfying benefits.

Have an amazing day,

Tracey x

Thanks for your email, great to know I’m doing it in the correct order but it doesn’t tell me how much of each product I should be putting on my face.

Been using my Highborn London products now for around two weeks , I’m so happy with my skin and the results . ❤️ I’m 51 and needed a skin care that really nourished my skin and I have definitely see the results under my eyes . I was worried about buying something online . After having cancer I really had to be careful what I was using as I have had a really reaction from a high end brand . I now will be ordering more as we ladies are worth that treat . So if your unsure Don’t be .

I have always loved skincare and started using moisturiser from age 17. Think the earlier the better. Have used all sorts of good brands over the years. Having discovered Highborn London has been brilliant. I now use only this, no hunting round for other brands. It really nourishes your skin totally, a wonderful range and things being added to the range as well. So cleanse, tone, add moisture. Always night cream. Thank you so much.

Love all the products I have bought and are really pleased to have this clarification. At 74 I am not expecting miracles but to build on previous regimes.

Hi.I’m ptetty clued up about layering etc and use some of your products in my am/pm routines. The only query I have is with the organic hydration gel, which I enjoy using by the way. Great to wear under my daytime moisturiser and SPF if having a bit of a rosacea flare up but there’s no way I could keep applying it during the day as you suggest. It couldn’t penetrate the occlusive. Or do you mean if you’re not following with moisturiser and SPF? If I’m indoors for the day I might do this.

I am a 63 year old grandma. I discovered your products recently and cannot believe the difference they have made to my skin. Even my husband has commented on how good my skin looks. So many people have said how I’m looking younger! I’ve never had many wrinkles but my skin looks plumper and the area under my eyes is lighter and smoother. Thank you Tracey for such great products.

Thank you for confirming the correct facial skincare routine, I’m satisfied that I’m applying all these lovely products properly. Keep up the good work Highborn! 👍😉👌xx

Thank you Tracey for your skin care routine info. I am, as I am sure some of your other ladies are, at a loss which sequence to use your products and I find this routine really helpful and easy to follow. I am a fairly new member, having been introduced to your beauty items through one of my friends and I am in love with your products. Take care xx

I’m obsessed with your products! I’ve tried for years to look after my skin and have tried so many brands but this is definitely one I’ll be using for the rest of my life. I absolutely love all of your products, especially the pre-eminent beauty serum and the eye gel! It was great to read this blog as I was putting my eye gel after my moisturiser so thank you for that handy tip

Violet on November 02 2019 at 06:26PM

Loving all your creams plus eye gel & lip balm. Please carry on this good product? x

This is very helpful. I always put my sunscreen on first which I now see us wrong
I am spending three weeks in Canada over christmas. Yes it will be cold but lots of sun hopefully. My worry was the sunscreen. After reading this blog I will be applying it after my moisturiser, is this correct ? When will you be producing a sun screen. Because I have brown age Mark’s on my face due to sun damage and solar keritosis I apply the hydration gel first. Is this correct. Love this product
