Masking 101: How To Get The Absolute Best From Your Face Mask

Masking 101: How To Get The Absolute Best From Your Face Mask

With skincare technology moving along at a rate of knots, classic beauty treatments like face masks often get forgotten about. But, having stood the test of time for a reason, this golden oldie is still up there with the very best.

And with so many customers asking for one, we just had to expand our portfolio to include our fabulous new Natural Element Clay Mask

New to the world of masking? Don’t worry, using a face mask could not be simpler. Here’s what you need to know to reap the rewards…

1. Choose The Right Formulation

There are many different types of face mask to choose from, including gel masks, creams, peel-off formulations, clay masks, even warming ones. Your skin type and concerns will dictate your perfect mask match but in our opinion our Natural Element Clay Mask offers the best of everything.

It’s been carefully formulated to deeply cleanse your skin thanks to a blend of green French clay and kaolin (white clay). However, unlike many clay masks which can dry out the complexion, we’ve also included hyaluronic acid to hydrate and botanical oils to brighten, smooth, firm and moisturise your skin.

Like we said, the best of everything!

2. Know When To Use It

We recommend masking once or twice a week to reap the benefits of all those skin-loving ingredients. Personally, we’re night-time maskers, but you can do it any time, as long as you apply it after cleansing and toning your skin.

Applying a mask to unwashed skin will leave an oily barrier on the surface which stops all those delicious ingredients from working to the best of their abilities. Not ideal, we think you’ll agree. Also, money down the drain.

3. Apply Your Mask Like A Pro

We know it’s tempting to slather a thick layer of mask all over your face but this is wasteful and totally unnecessary. A thin, even layer is all you need – in fact, roughly the size of a £1 coin should be plenty.

Tie your hair back first, then apply the mask with clean hands all over your face. And don’t forget your neck which often gets neglected, but is one of the first places to show the visible signs of ageing. You’ll find it’s very easy to massage into your skin so don’t be surprised if it starts to soak in before your eyes!

4. Relax While It Does The Hard Work For You

Take note, our mask doesn’t dry on your skin so you won’t get that awkward tightening and cracking. Our mask has been designed to be left on your skin for around 10 minutes and you’ll notice it starts to disappear in places - that’s all the goodness absorbing into your skin to work it’s magic.

Use use this precious time wisely - In other words, don’t even think about doing chores, checking your phone or working at your desk. This is your moment to lie back on your bed, relax and take a few minutes to decompress while your mask does its thing.

This might sound unimportant, but it’s a vital way to practice a little self-care – even if it is for just a few minutes a week.

5. Be Gentle When You Remove Your Mask

When these 10 minutes are up, use a delicate touch to remove your mask rather than scrubbing away at your skin which could damage the oh-so-important protective barrier.

Rinse your face and neck with lukewarm water first, then use the pads of your fingers to massage your skin in circular motions. This will help soften the clay, making it easier to rinse it clean away. You could also use a clean, damp face cloth for a little gentle exfoliation if that floats your boat.

To finish, pat your skin dry with a clean towel, then apply Imperial Eye Gel, Pre-Eminent Beauty Serum and your favourite moisturiser to seal all that goodness in.

You’ll be amazed at the instant softness and brightness of your skin! Pure bliss!
