Layering skincare products is a great way to up your level of antioxidants, hydration and protection – as long as you get them in the correct order, that is.
The general rule is that, after cleansing, you should apply the lightest, thinnest product first, working your way up to the richest, thickest formulations. This means Diamond Toner comes first, followed by serum, Imperial Eye Gel, Imperial Moisturiser or Night Elixir, Organic Age-Defying Facial Oil and finally, your SPF.
Need to know: Never apply moisturiser before Pre-Eminent Beauty Serum because this will create a protective barrier on the surface, stopping all the incredible ingredients in your serum from penetrating your skin.
Moisturising gives you a great opportunity to treat your skin to a gentle massage to improve circulation and help remove unwanted toxins – read: glowy skin! So don’t just slap your moisturiser on in seconds and hope for the best. Instead, spend a minute applying gentle pressure as you smooth it over your skin.
Start by placing your hands (freshly washed, of course) in a prayer position either side of your nose, then flatten your hands over your cheeks and work them up towards your hairline. Repeat this a few times, then do the same over your forehead and finally your chin, using upwards motions along the jawline to help lift and sculpt your skin.
Most moisturisers will guide you as to how much to apply, so if a product recommends using the size of a £1 coin – the sweet spot for Imperial Moisturiser and Night Elixir – then this is what you should do. As tempting as it is to slather on a load!
The truth is, using more won’t make your product any more effective. It’s just wasteful!
Applying moisturiser to dry skin is totally fine, but if you really want to up your skin’s moisture content, apply it while your skin is slightly damp after cleansing.
This helps seal in those tiny water droplets before they get a chance to evaporate from the surface – ensuring optimum hydration that’ll stay put for longer.
And if you prefer to apply serum before moisturising? Same. Apply Pre-Eminent Beauty Serum while your skin is damp, then wait a few moments before applying moisturiser over the top.
Your skin does not stop at your chin so make sure you cleanse, treat and moisturise your neck every time you work on your face.
The skin on your neck is very susceptible to the visible signs of ageing thanks to being thinner, more fragile and drier than the skin on your face. It also contains less collagen and elastin which are important proteins that help keep your skin strong and supple.
All this means your neck needs serious attention if you want to ward off the signs of premature ageing for as long as possible.
Pro Tip: When moisturising your neck (which you should do every morning and night), use long sweeping upwards motions to help lift the skin. And, just like your face, always protect it with Organic Tinted Moistuirser with SPF 25 to help reduce UV damage – AKA lines, wrinkles, dark spots and sagging skin.
It’s also worth remembering that all products are different so it’s prudent to ensure you’re well informed on how much to apply and how often. Read the instructions on all of your products. They can make or break the efficacy of your moisturiser!
